This sunken patio was already set up to be a fantastic space, but was overwhelmed by concrete. The clients asked us to soften the space in time to host a breast cancer fundraiser at their house. After the benefit, the patio would serve as a dining area next to a unique indoor pool and creating a connection to the driveway and back door and driveway. We wrapped the existing concrete bench in hardwood to add some warmth to the area surrounding the fire pit. Texas basalt gravel serves as mulch to the drought tolerant native plants, which give texture and contrast.
